Prime Minister Trudeau must apologize for blasphemous sweater

In a photo that is making headlines in Canadian media, prime minister Justin Trudeau is shown wearing a sweater that mocks the Lord’s Supper and blasphemes our Lord Jesus Christ. The picture was taken over a year ago, but has only recently come to light. Apparently, the prime minister and his brother, Alexandre, were celebrating their joint birthday on December 25th – Christmas Day, which also marks the birth of Christ.

The prime minister and his brother are both seen smiling from ear to ear while wearing the same sacrilegious sweaters. The sweaters are based on Leonardo Da Vinci’s famous painting, “The Last Supper”, with Christ at the centre, and his disciples on either side. However, superimposed over the faces of our Lord and His disciples are emojis – various cartoon-style smiley and goofy faces. Above each one is a comical birthday hat. Draping down from the ceiling is a “Happy Birthday” banner, and there is confetti flying in the air. As for the meal, at each one’s plate, there is a slice of birthday cake.

These sweaters are no innocent prank! They are a blatant, pointed attack on Christianity, designed to ridicule Christ, our Lord and Saviour! The Toronto-based company that produces the sweaters, Shelfies Inc., says on their website that they are in the business of making “outrageous photorealistic sweaters”. One of their claims to fame is that their sweaters are “worn by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and other celebrities.”

As the elected leader of Canada, Justin Trudeau has a responsibility to show respect toward all the people of this country. And he must be particularly respectful of our deeply-held religious beliefs. Regardless of his personal views on Christianity, as a leader and representative of our nation, he must exhibit tolerance and sensitivity across the board. The blatant ridicule of the declared religion of two-thirds of its citizens – let alone this outright blasphemy against God – is not an attitude befitting the honourable office of prime minister! In fact, it is an act of hatred.

When a Danish newspaper published cartoon depictions that mocked the Islamic prophet Mohammed in 2005, there was international outrage. In fact, it sparked a series of Islamic protests and extremist violence that lasted for years, resulting in the deaths of over 200 people. Nevertheless, our prime minister appears to have no qualms with mocking Christ in a similar fashion, heedless of any potential consequences that may result.

We, as citizens of Canada, must stand together against this outrage. We, as Christians, must stand together against the blaspheming of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is imperative that we hold Justin Trudeau to account. Therefore, we now call on him to consider the impropriety and impact of his actions and issue a full and complete apology. He needs to apologize to the Christian community, as well as to all Canadians. Also, he should consider an apology to the One most offended – our Lord Jesus Christ!

Please apologize for sweaters mocking Jesus Christ

The Rt. Hon. Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada,

I am writing to you to express my personal outrage and deep offence. When you and your brother dressed in sweaters mocking Jesus Christ and the Lord’s Supper, you not only exhibited insensitivity to Canada’s Christians, but you showed a disrespect for the deeply-held religious views of every Canadian citizen. In point of fact, you have blasphemed God.

Would you have dared to wear a sweater portraying Mohammed with an emoji face as well? If not, why would you wear one of Jesus Christ?

I am asking you to please consider the impropriety and impact of your actions. At the moment, the whole world is left with the impression that you personally, and Canada as a nation, mocks Christ and Christians. You are making it look like the hatred of religion is OK in our country. The only appropriate and honourable thing to do is to issue a full and complete public apology.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]
