Counter the Criticism –Babies are always good news!

What the Bible teaches and what the culture screams are generally two very different things. This is painfully true in the area of children. The culture says children will ruin your life, be a terrible burden and use valuable resources. God says that children are a heritage and a reward.

Recently, stars of the reality TV show “Fixer Upper” Chip and Joanna Gaines announced they are expecting their fifth child! Although many on the internet were supportive of the couple, MSN just published an article amplifying the voices of those who distain the couple for having children.

This is completely wrong! Chip and Joanna should be fully supported and celebrated for bringing another baby into the world, not criticized. Chip and Joanna are wonderful people, with a good marriage and a good financial situation. What does this kind of article say about babies conceived in more troubling situations? Please send a message to MSN that babies are always good news –whether conceived in a wonderful situation, like Chip and Joanna’s, or in less than ideal circumstances.

MSN quoted Facebook comments such as, “Thank you for contributing to the over population of the planet. I hope this one will be your last and you will use wiser judgement.” And other comments defaming Chip and Joanna’s marriage and saying they were irresponsible.

By reporting on these comments, MSN is giving these negative viewpoints a louder voice. These kinds of voices should be ignored, not amplified.

It’s time for us to change the narrative that children are a burden and instead stand up and celebrate the joy and pleasure that children bring to a family. Yes, children are hard, yes children take time and yes children take resources, but the very best things in life generally do.

As Psalm 127:3-5 teaches, “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children[a] of one's youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.”

Let’s tell MSN that the story they should be reporting on is the tremendous blessing that children are.
