Support the Florida resolution to declare porn a public health crisis!
One of the saddest consequences of sin is the perversion of the sacred sexual union between a man and a woman in marriage. God created sex to be the consummating act of a lifelong union between one man and one woman. Further, marriage is intended to paint a picture of God’s undying, unending, unadulterated love for us.
But, as a result of sin, sex has been horribly perverted and often divorced from committed love in marriage. One of the most tragic manifestations of this perversion is the widespread use of pornography by both men and women –even within the church.
Fortunately, Rep Ross Spano (District 59) recently introduced HR 157 –a resolution declaring pornography a public health crisis. This resolution will mean the government “acknowledges the need for education, prevention, research, and policy change to protect the citizens of this state.” (Text of HR 157, Page 2)
HR 157 has been referred to the Health and Human Services Committee. Please ask them to pass it out of committee in order to bring much-needed attention to the crisis of pornography!
Individuals who struggle with pornography need the help and support of those around them to overcome the desire to view pornography. But unfortunately, many people are too embarrassed to come forward and seek help.
Based on a recent study by the Barna Group called the Porn Phenomenon, 64% of youth pastors and 57% of pastors struggled with pornography currently or in the past.
Numerous studies have demonstrated the long-term effects of pornography on the brain. It sabotages a person’s ability to enjoy pure intercourse within marriage and leaves both partners dissatisfied and distant –exactly the opposite of what sex is supposed to do.
Please support HR 157 in order to bring the problem of pornography into the light. We need to demonstrate the seriousness of the problem and encourage those addicted to come forward to receive help.
Let’s stand against pornography and commit to open transparency and accountability. Sex was designed by God for our good and our flourishing. We must safeguard marriage through demolishing perverted sexual strongholds in our churches!
